The 750 kg GVW boundary
The basic split is simple: up to 750 kg GVW a trailer needs no brakes of its own – the car does the braking. Above 750 kg an overrun brake is required, engaging automatically as the trailer pushes against the car while slowing down.
Unbraked trailer – advantages
Lower purchase price, simpler construction, cheaper servicing (no brake system to adjust) and lower unladen weight, which means more payload within the 750 kg. Perfect for gardens, motorcycles and occasional jobs. See unbraked trailers.
Braked trailer – advantages
Higher GVW (up to 3500 kg in our range), more stable braking with heavy loads and a wider choice of bodies: tippers, car transporters, box trailers. The brake system needs periodic checks, but for business use it is a must. See braked trailers.
What to compare before buying?
Compare unladen weight against payload (both listed in every model’s specification), axle count, wheel size and side type. For bulk materials, check the tipping function and opening sides. Not sure? Call +48 503 770 433 – we will match a model to your car and needs.
