Light trailers up to 750 kg – no extra entitlement
On a plain category B licence you can tow a light trailer with GVW up to 750 kg. Such combinations drive like a regular car and cover garden jobs, renovations or a motorcycle. See unbraked trailers up to 750 kg.
Combinations up to 3500 kg on a B licence
Category B also covers heavier trailers as long as the maximum authorised mass of the whole combination stays within 3500 kg. Check your car’s GVW (registration document) and subtract it from 3500 kg – the remainder is your trailer budget. A single-axle braked trailer fits most family cars.
B96 code – up to 4250 kg
After a short training and practical test (B96 code) the combination limit rises to 4250 kg – the choice for regular heavy towing.
Which trailer to choose?
Occasional use: a light unbraked trailer is cheaper and simpler to maintain. Business and heavy loads: a braked trailer with payload reserve. Browse Brenderup trailers or ask our team – we will match the GVW to your car.
